Iran Fires Electro-Optical Missiles at US Ships and Bases in Jordan
The Middle East conflict has taken a dramatic turn as Iranian military forces launched electro-optical guided missiles at US ships and bases in Jordan. The New York Post reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out 'waves of strikes' against US military sites, but the US Central Command confirmed that the missiles were intercepted before reaching their targets.
The attack is believed to be a response to recent US strikes on five oil tankers off the coast of Kharg Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has claimed that its new Qassem Bassir missile system, equipped with sensors and cameras for extreme precision, is invisible to GPS systems and difficult to jam.
The Qassem Bassir missiles have a range of 1,200 kilometers and a warhead weighing 500 kilograms, posing a threat not only to warships but also to populated areas. Major cities within the missiles' range include Tel Aviv, Riyadh, Doha, and Kuwait City, as well as vital shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal.
