Iran Grants Iraq Oil Tanker Passage Amid Strait of Hormuz Tensions
Iran has granted permission to several Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital energy route in the world. This decision comes despite increasing military confrontation between the US, Israel, and Iran.
Prior to this, Iranian state press reported that Tehran had approved the passage of Iraqi oil tankers over the past six months, despite the growing insecurity and military presence in the region.
The Iranian authorities insist that ships passing through the strait should obtain permission and pay transit fees. This is in direct contradiction to US President Donald Trump's claim that the US has 'total control' over the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghdad, Iraq has been seeking more access for its tankers, considering it a matter of high economic importance. The country relies heavily on exporting crude oil via the strait, with about 20% of global energy exports taking place through this passage.
