Iran Grants Iraqi Oil Tankers Passage Through Strait of Hormuz
In a significant development, Iran has granted permission to several Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Iranian News Agency. This decision comes after repeated requests from Baghdad, which were made during the visit of the Speaker of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, to Iraq.
The agency stated that obtaining special permission for Iraqi tankers was one of the key demands raised by Baghdad. The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Haibat Al-Halbousi, emphasized the need to respect Iraq's specific circumstances regarding oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz in a way that safeguards its economic interests amid ongoing regional developments.
The move is seen as an effort to strengthen relations between Iraq and Iran. During his meeting with Ghalibaf, Al-Halbousi called for activating friendship committees and developing parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.
