Iran Grants Permission for Iraqi Oil Tankers Through Strait of Hormuz
Iran has granted special permission for Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz following requests from Baghdad. This decision comes after repeated requests from Iraq, which has been seeking alternative export routes due to Iran's effective closure of the strait.
The permission was granted during Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf's visit to Iraq and is seen as a significant development for Iraq's oil exports. Baghdad had discussed Iraqi oil exports through Hormuz with Iranian officials, but the issue remained complicated.
Iraq has been among the countries most affected by Iran's closure of the strait, which has resulted in significantly lower traffic levels compared to pre-war times. Ships continue to face attacks in the area, and Iraq produced around 4 million barrels of oil per day before the outbreak of the Iran war.
