Iran Grants Special Passage to Iraqi Oil Tankers Through Strait of Hormuz
Turkey's neighbor Iraq has been granted special permission by Iran to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, despite security concerns and intense military activity in the area.
The Iranian government has approved the transit of several Iraqi oil tankers, which was a major request from Baghdad during recent talks with Tehran. This move comes after repeated requests from Iraq, which has been affected by Iran's effective closure of the strait.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi stated that Iran had facilitated the passage of vessels carrying Iraqi oil through the Strait of Hormuz in recent days and that Baghdad had discussed oil exports through the waterway with Iranian officials. The issue remains complicated, as shipping traffic remains significantly below pre-war levels while vessels continue to face attacks in the area.
