Iran Launches Pressure-Boosting Hub for South Pars Gas Field
The South Pars gas field in Iran has taken a crucial step towards maintaining production and preventing pressure decline. The country's state media reported that the first hub of the pressure-boosting project, known as Hub 1, has begun engineering work. This project is designed to sustain output, address the natural gas supply imbalance, and protect Iran's share of the giant field.
The project involves a combined onshore-offshore development scenario aimed at increasing recovery factor and preventing reservoir pressure decline. Petropars Group Chief Executive Hamidreza Saqafi emphasized that the goal is to maximize domestic capabilities, prevent loss of national assets, and accelerate implementation of the South Pars pressure-boosting program.
As part of this effort, a contract was awarded to the Iran Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) on June 18, 2026, to build the RP-1 four-leg riser platform jacket weighing approximately 2,500 metric tons. This structure will be installed adjacent to the SPD12A platform and serve the development project for the shared Bilal gas field.
The South Pars field, which Iran shares with Qatar, is the world's largest natural gas field.
