Iran Lists Conditions for Reopening Hormuz Strait Amid Ongoing Conflict
A significant development in the ongoing Middle East conflict has unfolded as Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf outlined key conditions for reopening the Hormuz Strait, a critical water route through which a fifth of the world's crude oil is transported.
The list of demands includes lifting sanctions on Iranian oil and ending military threats from the US. Traffic in the strait has been severely reduced since the start of the war, with Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) citing Ghalibaf's conditions as the removal of the American blockade to Iranian ports, release of Iran's frozen assets, and removing sanctions on Iranian oil.
Ghalibaf also emphasized that these demands are in line with previous requests made by Tehran. Furthermore, he called for the completion of all military operations and threats from the US, as well as the implementation of 'preconditions' agreed upon as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) reached between Iran and the US in June.
A recent incident highlighted the ongoing tensions in the region. A ship was hit by an unknown object in the strait earlier today, resulting in a fatality on board, according to reports from the United Kingdom Marine Trade Operations (UKMTO).
