Iran Missile Barrage Triggers US-Saudi Strike in Escalating Middle East Conflict
The Middle East conflict has escalated further as Iran launched a barrage of missiles at US forces in the region, prompting a response from the US and Saudi Arabia. The attack killed at least 20 fighters from Tehran-backed groups in Iraq.
A regional official said mediators are still trying to restore calm and get the ceasefire back on track, but the renewed hostilities have sent oil prices spiking, with Brent crude jumping 3.1% to $84.58 a barrel.
Jordan intercepted five Iranian missiles fired at its Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, a key US military hub for the region. The US and Saudi fighter aircraft also struck multiple logistics and weapons sites in eastern Iraq in response to alleged drone attacks on Saudi Arabia.
