Iran Oil Exports Plummet 80% Amid US Sanctions Pressure
Iran's oil exports have plummeted by over 80% in August 2026 due to US sanctions and naval blockade pressure. The country's crude oil exports for August are estimated at around 260,000 barrels per day, down from 1.7 million barrels per day in August 2025, according to Kpler data.
This decline is also reflected in the previous month, with Iran's oil exports in August down about 70% from 893,000 barrels per day in July 2026.
Economic pressure is mounting on Tehran as oil is one of the main sources of state revenue. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged that trade conditions show US sanctions have a real impact on Iran's economy.
The decline in oil exports and trade has the potential to put greater pressure on the Iranian government's ability to finance the country's needs, with increased transaction costs and hindered flow of goods also posing challenges.
