Iran-Oman Shipping Deal Sends WTI Crude Prices Soaring Amid Volatility
The Iran-Oman agreement on shipping cooperation has dampened optimistic expectations for oil transportation, leading to a rise in WTI crude prices. On August 6, during the U.S. trading session, the international crude oil market experienced a notable rebound with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude prices increasing amid volatility.
Traders adjusted their strategies in response to newly finalized details of the shipping cooperation framework between Iran and Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz. The front-month WTI crude contract stabilized above $77.28 per barrel, posting a cumulative gain of 2.74% for the day and ending a prior phase of decline.
The agreement includes provisions that prohibit vessels from the United States, Israel, and other countries designated by Iran as hostile from entering or transiting through the Strait. Any vessel that breaches the navigation ban may be subjected to fines of up to 20% of the total value of its cargo.
