Iran-Oman Talks Boost Oil Prices as Strait of Hormuz Hopes Rise
Oil prices dropped more than $2 a barrel on August 26 as talks between Iran and Oman revived hopes that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen, easing shipping constraints in the key Middle East region.
Brent crude futures fell by 2.6% to $86.28 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures declined 2.53% to $80.29 a barrel.
Mitsuru Muraishi, an analyst at Fujitomi Securities, attributed the market reaction to hopes for progress in talks between Iran and Oman, but noted that uncertainty over the outlook has prompted bargain buying, limiting further losses.
