Iran-Oman Talks Focus on Regulating Strait of Hormuz Ship Passage
Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi is set to visit Iran on Tuesday, August 24, 2026, as part of ongoing talks between the two countries over the regulation of ship passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and will see al-Busaidi meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss regional issues.
Iran has maintained control over the strategically important waterway since the outbreak of war in the Middle East on February 28, requiring vessels to obtain permission and pay transit fees before passage.
The US wants the strait to return to its pre-war system of free navigation, with President Donald Trump claiming Washington 'has total control' over Hormuz, through which around one fifth of the world's oil and LNG exports passed before the war.
