Iran Opens Strait of Hormuz to Iraqi Oil Tankers After Baghdad Pressure
Iran has granted permission for Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz after repeated requests from Baghdad. The move follows a visit by Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf to Iraq, during which he discussed special permission for Iraqi tankers.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi said that Iran has facilitated the passage of vessels carrying Iraqi oil through the Strait in recent days. However, he noted that the issue remains complicated and that Baghdad is working to expand its exports through other routes, including Turkey's Ceyhan port and Syria's Baniyas port.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has also announced plans to begin exporting oil through Jordan's Aqaba port. The country produced around four million barrels of oil per day before the outbreak of the Iran war.
