Hopes for a peace deal on Iran have faded after US President Donald Trump said that a ceasefire was 'on life support'.

Tehran rejected a US proposal to end the conflict, sticking to its demands, which include an end to the war in Lebanon and control over the Strait of Hormuz. The US had proposed ending fighting before starting talks on more contentious issues, including Iran's nuclear program.

Brent crude oil futures extended gains in early Asian trade on Tuesday, climbing above $107 a barrel, as the deadlock left the Strait largely closed.
