Iran Ramps Up Domestic Capacity to Develop Azadegan Oil Field Amid Sanctions
Iran's Azadegan oil field has become a test of the country's engineering, financial, and technological capabilities after years of delays due to external pressures and internal challenges.
The integrated development plan for Azadegan aims to raise production from around 205,000 barrels per day to 550,000 barrels per day, making it one of Iran's most important energy projects.
Initially, the project was eyed by major international energy companies, including Japan's Inpex, which signed an agreement in 2004 to assess and develop Azadegan with plans to invest billions of dollars.
However, due to concerns over American sanctions and restrictions on financial cooperation with Iran, Inpex gradually reduced its involvement and eventually withdrew from the project.
