Iran Refuses to Budge on Strait of Hormuz as US Fuel Prices Soar
The conflict between Iran and the US continues to escalate, with neither side showing signs of backing down. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the US accepts its defeat.
Gharibabadi's statement was made on X, a social media platform, and suggests that Iran is not interested in negotiating a resolution to the conflict anytime soon. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil trade, with over one-fifth of the world's oil exports passing through it before the war.
US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, has urged Americans to accept higher gasoline prices as a result of the conflict. At a rally in New York, he said that paying 'a tiny little bit more for your gasoline' is worth ensuring that 'a very evil country' does not gain a nuclear weapon.
