Iran Rejects Oman's Proposal for Joint Management of Strait of Hormuz

Oman's proposal to manage the Strait of Hormuz has been rejected by Iran. The strait is a critical waterway, through which about a fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas flows.

Tehran considers Oman a valuable neighbor but sees no chance of success in the Omani proposal for regional joint management of the strait. Under this plan, Iran would not exercise sole control over the inbound route and part of the outbound route.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said they struck three oil tankers in the strait, forcing them to stop after ignoring warnings for taking an 'unsafe and illegal route'. The IRGC Navy warned that unlawful US military interference would not go unanswered.
