Iran Seeks Negotiated End to Conflict with US Amid Renewed Hostilities

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that his country is still seeking a negotiated solution to its conflict with the US, a day after hostilities resumed for the first time since late July.

The comments came after US President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video clip claiming to show Iran's oil hub Kharg Island being destroyed. However, there was no evidence of any such attack, and a US official said that the military had not targeted Kharg Island in overnight strikes.

The return to hostilities followed weeks of increased economic pressure on Iran, with Trump's administration imposing costly sanctions on Tehran and its business partners. Despite this, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran believes 'the solution to existing issues is dialogue and cooperation'.
