Iran Seizes UAE-Linked Tanker Amid Escalating Conflict in Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz has become a hotspot for conflict as Iran claims to have seized a tanker affiliated with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for violating its maritime laws. The incident comes after multiple attacks on UAE-linked vessels, prompting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to condemn and denounce Iran's actions, calling them piracy.
According to Iranian media, the tanker was taken towards Qeshm Island after allegedly failing to follow the required route and pay fees for services and permits. The move has sent shockwaves through global oil markets, with prices jumping above $91 a barrel for Brent crude futures.
The UAE has been a target of Iranian aggression, with at least three ADNOC-linked tankers coming under attack in recent weeks. The US Central Command reports that it has redirected 64 commercial vessels and disabled three to ensure compliance with the blockade.
