Iran Strikes Adnoc Oil Tanker in Strategic Waterway

The UAE and Qatar have condemned an Iranian missile strike on one of Adnoc's oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been mostly closed since Iran mined and militarized the waterway in response to US and Israeli strikes.

The attack marked the 16th incident targeting an Adnoc vessel since the war began on February 28. The UAE Foreign Ministry called it a 'flagrant violation' of Security Council Resolution 2817, which stresses freedom of navigation and rejects targeting commercial vessels or disrupting international maritime routes.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry also condemned the attack, rejecting the use of the strait as a tool of pressure and renewing its call for the waterway to be reopened unconditionally. Iran's IRGC said any reopening would be conditional on Washington accepting Tehran's terms, unrelated to ongoing Oman-brokered negotiations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian claimed the US had breached the Strait of Hormuz clause in the memorandum of understanding and that Iran responded accordingly.
