A fresh wave of tensions has swept through the Middle East as Iran retaliated against the United States for an airstrike on Iranian oil tankers. The US military launched a drone attack on two Iranian vessels anchored off the coast, reportedly in response to a new policy where if Iran attacks an oil tanker, the US will strike back.

The airstrikes targeted over 100 military objectives inside Iran, including rocket launchers used for deploying sea mines. In the process, a bomb struck a wedding venue, killing five people and injuring more than 50 others. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for launching retaliatory strikes using ballistic missiles and drones against US military bases in Jordan, Iraq, and Bahrain.

The clashes have reignited fears of a wider conflict in the region, with Iran warning that further malicious acts by the US will be met with an even stronger response. Iranian Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf also threatened to cut off oil exports from other nations if its own export routes are blocked.
