A commercial vessel has been struck by an unidentified projectile while crossing the Strait of Hormuz near Oman. The incident occurred on August 1, 2026, as the GasLog Shanghai, a Bermuda-flagged LNG tanker carrying liquefied natural gas from Qatar's Ras Laffan terminal, was exiting the strait.

The impact caused a fire near the engine room and temporarily disabled electrical power. No party has formally claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iranian media have suggested that the tanker was using an unauthorized route and had deliberately deactivated its tracking system. However, publicly available data cannot confirm whether this was due to technical issues or deliberate action.
