Iran Strikes US Base in Jordan, Sending Oil Prices Soaring and Bitcoin Rally to Test
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a surprise attack on a US base in Jordan, sending oil prices soaring nearly 4% and putting Bitcoin's fragile rally to the test.
The IRGC fired ballistic missiles at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, but all were intercepted by Patriot air-defense batteries, CENTCOM confirmed. The attack was reportedly retaliation for what Iran called 'illegal and malicious actions' by Washington against its interests.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude jumped 3.95% to $83.08 a barrel within hours of the strike, while Brent rose 3.86% to $87.34. Bitcoin initially slipped towards $63,700 but recovered to $64,500 after the attack.
