Iran Targets Azerbaijan-Israel Oil Pipeline in Bid for Energy Counter-Pressure
Iran is calling for an end to oil supplies from Azerbaijan to Israel. According to an article in the Iranian Khabaronline newspaper, this move would have a significant impact on Israel's economy.
Azerbaijan currently supplies around 94,000 barrels of oil per day to Israel, which accounts for 46.4% of its total imports. This is a substantial increase from last year and makes Azerbaijan the main supplier of oil to Israel.
The article suggests that disrupting this supply route would have a direct impact on Israel's refineries, transportation costs, final prices, and security of deliveries. The Caspian Sea route is preferred because it is not under direct US control like the Persian Gulf.
Iran could apply counter-pressure in Israel's most vulnerable sector: energy. Azerbaijan plays a key role here as Israel has used Azerbaijani territory and its intelligence infrastructure in the war against Iran.
