Iran Targets US Air Base in Jordan After Oil Tanker Strike Escalation
The conflict between Iran and the US has escalated as Tehran retaliated against American strikes on Iranian oil tankers. On Wednesday, September 8, Iran's Revolutionary Guards launched a 'punitive operation' against the US air base of Al-Azraq in Jordan with missiles.
The attack damaged maintenance and repair facilities, deployment locations, and shelters for fighter jets at the base. However, Jordan's army reported that they shot down 18 missiles from Iran targeting the kingdom.
This move comes after the US military destroyed five Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday in response to Iran targeting an American warship. The Islamic Republic had warned crews on oil tankers off US-allied Kuwait and Bahrain to leave their vessels, stating that they 'will be targeted.'
