Iran Targets US Bases and Interests After Tanker Attacks
Iran has delivered on its promise of a 'faster, heavier and more painful' response to the US after Washington attacked five Iranian oil tankers. The country's military said it targeted US bases, warships, and commercial vessels in the region.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have hit multiple US bases and interests across the region, including Al-Azraq airbase in Jordan, two US destroyers carrying cruise missiles, and two US commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf. The IRGC also said it targeted 10 ships attempting to pass through unsafe areas of the strait under US Navy escort.
The IRGC's aerospace force used ballistic missiles to attack two destroyers equipped with cruise and Aegis missiles in the region. Major General Ali Abdollahi, chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, had warned on Tuesday that any attack on Iranian oil tankers would trigger strikes on US bases across the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the US attacks on Iranian oil tankers, calling them a 'violation of the United Nations Charter and international law'.
