Iran Targets US Naval Drone in Strait of Hormuz, Tensions Escalate
Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has launched an attack on a US naval drone attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions in the region. The IRGC claimed the drone was an 'unmanned surface vessel' and accused it of trying to breach Iranian waters.
The incident comes after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces had struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to what it said were ballistic missile strikes launched by the IRGC against two navy warships. CENTCOM claimed that American forces had successfully evaded multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks, with no casualties reported.
The conflict reignited last Sunday after US forces targeted Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC later confirmed strikes had hit Larak Island, before launching retaliatory attacks on US bases across the Middle East.
