Iran Targets US Ships and Oil Tankers in Strait of Hormuz Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it targeted three US ships and three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz as retaliation for a previous US strike on three Iranian oil tankers.
The incident occurred on September 5, 2026, with the IRGC warning ships to refrain from transiting unauthorized waterways or risk being targeted.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has not confirmed the strikes, but Admiral Brad Cooper, head of CENTCOM, said that if the IRGC launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships, the US would impose an even higher economic cost by taking out three of theirs.
