Iran Threatens Neighbors Against Joining US Economic War
Iran has warned neighboring countries against joining the US 'economic war', threatening to target their interests and disrupt oil exports from the Gulf if they cooperate with Washington.
Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaee made the warning, saying that Iran would consider any country that joins the US campaign an enemy. He also stated that Iran is not seeking to expand the war but will take action if neighboring countries join the US in the economic war.
Rezaee specifically mentioned that if oil-exporting countries cooperate with the US, 'not a single drop of oil will leave the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz'. He also said that Iran would target other routes used to export oil from the Gulf and warned that the US must first correct its behavior before any progress can be made.
The warning comes after US President Donald Trump announced his intention to launch 'the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country', describing it as 'Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale'. Iran and the US had signed a memorandum of understanding in June through Pakistani and Qatari mediation, but talks have since stalled amid disputes over implementation.
