Iran Threatens Retaliation After Weekend of Tit-For-Tat Strikes
Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned on Monday that the country would retaliate against any new US attacks, stating 'Strike our assets and you get struck.'
The warning comes after a weekend of tit-for-tat strikes between the two nations, with the US striking three Iranian oil tankers, including one off Kharg Island, Iran's key oil export hub.
Iranian senior security official Mohsen Rezaei said that his country would announce plans for a new restricted zone in the Gulf in the coming days, which would begin from where a US naval blockade of Iran starts and extend into areas of the Gulf.
The new zone would add any ship entering it to an Iranian sanctions list, according to Rezaei. 'We will only commit to the Strait of Hormuz being open when they (the Americans) stop the sabotage, threats, and attacks on Iran,' he said.
