Iran Threatens Retaliation Against US Attacks on Gulf Energy Infrastructure
Iran has threatened to retaliate against any new US attacks on its assets, warning that energy infrastructure across the Persian Gulf is vulnerable.
On Monday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said 'Strike our assets and you get struck' after US and Iranian strikes on shipping at the weekend pushed oil prices up near six-week highs.
The threat underscores the risks of further escalation as tensions between Iran and the US continue to rise. The two countries have been engaged in a conflict since February 28, with no sign of progress towards a diplomatic breakthrough.
Tehran has tightened restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global oil and gas supplies, since the war began. Any vessel entering the area would be placed on an Iranian sanctions list.
