Iran Threatens to Target US Bases Amid Tanker Attack Tensions
Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated after a reported attack on an Iranian oil tanker near Kharg Island in the Gulf. The incident occurred approximately four nautical miles from the island's anchorage area on September 8, 2026.
Ibrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, warned that any attack on Iranian vessels would prompt Iran's armed forces to target US military bases and interests in the region. He stated, 'The US military had threatened to target three Iranian oil tankers.'
The naval force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued an urgent warning to all crews of oil tankers located in Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports to leave their vessels immediately, citing 'malicious practices' by the US military.
