Iran to US: Strike Our Assets, Get Struck
Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf issued a warning to the US, saying that any fresh attacks on Iranian assets would be met with retaliation. He used the phrase 'Strike our assets and you get struck' in his statement.
The warning came after US forces struck three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, including one off Kharg Island, Iran's key oil export hub. The strikes followed attacks by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on US warships in the region.
Tehran has demonstrated that it retains the ability to target US interests in neighbouring countries and disrupt oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz. An average of 10 commodity ships passed through the strait each day over the past 10 days, the lowest level since May, according to shipping data on Monday.
The reduced traffic contributed to a rise in oil prices, with Brent crude futures reaching $97.93 a barrel, their highest level since July 24, before easing to $96.19.
