Iran-U.S. Tensions Escalate After Saudi Tanker Attack
A recent attack in the Strait of Hormuz has resulted in the deaths of two Filipino sailors on board the Saudi oil tanker Sidr. The incident occurred while the ship was attempting to leave the Persian Gulf near Oman, and it is now being blamed on Iran.
Riyadh has formally accused Tehran of targeting the Bahri-owned vessel, with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry condemning the attack as a threat to 'the security and safety of maritime navigation and global energy supplies.'
This escalation in tensions between the two nations comes after US forces struck Iranian air defenses, radar systems, maritime assets, and mine-laying capabilities earlier this week.
President Donald Trump has stated that the US now has 'almost total control' of the Hormuz Strait, warning Tehran that further retaliation would bring a US response 'at a much harder and higher level.'
