Iran Unveils Domestic Catalysts to Boost Oil Industry Resilience
The Sarv Oil and Gas Industries Development Company in Iran has unveiled two domestically produced catalysts for use in oil and gas industries.
The 'chromium-free high-temperature shift catalyst' and 'medium-temperature shift catalyst' were developed for key industrial processes, including hydrogen and syngas production. These catalysts play a critical role in converting carbon monoxide and adjusting gas composition for subsequent stages.
In the water-gas shift process, carbon monoxide reacts with steam to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide. High- and medium-temperature shift catalysts are used depending on process design and operating conditions in various production units and industries.
The domestic production of these catalysts is significant for Iran as sanctions and restrictions have complicated its supply chains. The chromium-free high-temperature shift catalyst eliminates concerns associated with handling and managing chromium-containing materials, representing a technological step toward safer formulations.
