Iran is set to announce a new restricted zone in the Gulf in the coming days, along with maps of a new shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz. The move comes as tensions between Iran and the US continue to escalate.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said that only around 8 ships carrying food and essential goods currently cross the strait each day, compared to more than 100 before the war. He warned that any ship entering a new prohibited zone outside the Strait of Hormuz would be placed on Iran's sanctions list.

Rezaei emphasized that the prohibited zone would remain in place as long as the US naval blockade and pressure continue. The move is seen as a new form of leverage by many people working in maritime transport, which could have significant implications for global oil prices.
