Iran Unveils Preemptive Missile Doctrine Amid Escalating Tensions
The Iranian government has announced that it will take preemptive action against any threats to its national security, according to state media. This new doctrine was demonstrated by the unveiling of a solid-fueled ballistic missile called the Qassem Basir, which has improved capabilities compared to previous models.
The Qassem Basir reportedly has a range of over 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) and a half-ton warhead. This marks a significant development in Iran's defense strategy, according to state media. The missile was unveiled last year but has now been tested against a US warship.
The US responded by saying that it struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to the ballistic missile launch. The White House also dismissed plans announced by Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, to create an 'exclusion zone' near the Strait of Hormuz.
