Iran-US Conflict Sends Oil Prices Plummeting
Oil prices plummeted on July 27, marking their largest one-day drop in about two months. The price of WTI crude oil fell over 7% to around $82.89 per barrel as investors hoped for a renewed ceasefire between the US and Iran.
The conflict has been ongoing since June, with both sides failing to make meaningful progress toward enduring peace. Despite President Donald Trump giving diplomacy 'some space', Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that the country currently has no negotiations with the US.
The situation remains fluid and uncertain, with analysts warning of further repricing if traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains at a standstill. The US oil reserves are reportedly approaching critical levels, which could lead to further volatility in the market.
