Tensions between Iran and the United States escalated on Monday night as two oil tankers were struck by unknown projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil trade.

The incident occurred just hours after President Donald Trump warned that the US would intensify its attacks on Iran. The strikes followed Sunday's exchange of fire between the two nations, which saw the US launch strikes on Iranian troops in Larak Island and Iran retaliate with strikes on US bases in Jordan.

No casualties or environmental impact have been reported from the tanker strikes, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre.
