Iran War Drives Up Gas Prices as Conflict Enters Sixth Month
The US has been at war in Iran for six months, and the conflict is taking its toll on gas prices. The average price of a gallon of regular gas is currently $4.10, up from $3.19 at this time last year.
The Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that connects the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea, has been a major point of tension throughout the war. Disruptions to the oil supply chain have pushed up global gas prices.
President Donald Trump announced the military operation against Iran in February and predicted it would last four to five weeks. However, the conflict has dragged on for months, with 18 service members having died so far.
