Iran War Drives Up Gas Prices, Making Labor Day Travel More Expensive

Labor Day travel is proving to be more expensive this year due to higher gas prices. The war with Iran has driven up crude oil prices, causing Michigan drivers to pay an average of over $4 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, a significant increase from last year's average of about $3.30.

Regina Logan of Farmington Hills expressed her frustration with the high gas prices, stating 'Prices of gas are ridiculous, so we are going to hang around and have a good time at home.' Katie Garbutt of Romulus agreed, saying 'That's probably part of the reason we are not traveling a lot. They are very high right now.'

Mackenzie Miller of Detroit also shared her concerns about the cost of gas, noting that it takes about $80 to fill up her tank.

Adrienne Woodland, a spokesperson for AAA, attributed the higher gas prices to the war with Iran and advised drivers to keep their vehicles properly maintained to offset some of the cost. She also recommended timing travel to avoid peak hours, which are predicted to be Thursday between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday between noon and 8 p.m., Saturday between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., and Monday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
