Iran War Spreads to Red Sea and Caspian as US Halts Strikes
The Iran war has expanded to new fronts over the weekend, despite a pause in US strikes. Yemen's Houthi rebels attacked Saudi oil installations along the Red Sea coast, while Iran accused Ukraine of targeting one of its vessels in the Caspian Sea.
According to reports, the US naval blockade against Iran 'remains in full effect,' but no explanation was given for the halt in strikes. A senior official in President Donald Trump's administration stated that Trump has always preferred diplomacy, but has shown Iran what will happen if they fail to come to the table.
The conflict has disrupted energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz and could now affect a second major shipping route. The Saudi-backed government in Yemen struck Houthi sites in the Marib and al-Jawf provinces, while the Houthis have declared a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia.
