Iranian Attack on Saudi Oil Tanker Kills Two Filipino Sailors in Strait of Hormuz

Saudi Arabia has confirmed that an Iranian attack on one of its oil tankers killed two Filipino sailors. The Sidr, owned by Bahri, was hit while transiting the Strait of Hormuz late on Monday.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global energy exports, with about one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas trade passing through it. Tehran has threatened to impede energy exports from neighboring Gulf countries by targeting tankers without authorization.

Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry stressed the need to halt escalations and respect international maritime safety and global energy supply security. Bahri is in contact with the vessel and coordinating closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders, according to a statement.
