Iranian Attack on Saudi Oil Tanker Kills Two Seafarers in Strait of Hormuz

Saudi Arabia's national shipping company Bahri reported that an Iranian attack on one of its oil tankers, Sidr, killed two Filipino seafarers while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred at 23:40 local time (2040 GMT) on Monday, according to Bahri.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global energy exports, with about one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas trade passing through it before the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran in February 2028.

Tehran has threatened tankers attempting to sail through the strait without authorization, impeding energy exports from neighboring oil-rich Gulf countries. The kingdom stressed the necessity of halting escalations and respecting international maritime safety and the security of global energy supplies.
