Iranian Missile Attack on US Troops Intercepted by US Military

The US military says it has successfully intercepted an Iranian missile attack on American troops in the Middle East, shattering a brief pause in fighting as mediators tried to get both sides back to negotiations and toward a ceasefire.

The U.S. Central Command said all Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted, with U.S. forces 'remaining vigilant and at a high state of readiness.'

This attack ended a period of calm between the United States and Iran, neither of which had announced attacks for days following weeks of escalation over the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait is a narrow chokepoint through which 20% of the world's oil normally flows. Iran effectively closed it by firing at freighters and tankers off its coast or threatening to do so.
