Iran's Demands Spark Oil Price Surge Amid Ongoing Tensions

Crude oil prices surged on August 8 as Iran issued demands for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, following a pause in US-Iran tensions last week. According to Hyperliquid, WTI perpetual futures jumped to $77.67, while Brent, the global benchmark, soared to $83.

The recent dip in oil prices had been attributed to hopes that Iran and Oman would reach an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, these hopes were dashed as Iran presented a list of demands for reopening, including the removal of US sanctions and the release of frozen assets.

Iran believes it is in a strong position due to recent reports on US weapons shortages, with media suggesting that the US has depleted most of its interceptors and ammunitions. The country's General Dan Caine has also warned the White House about the risks of prolonging the war.
