Iran's Economic Woes Weaken Its Grip on the Strait
The Trump administration has received some much-needed PR relief from recent developments in its conflict with Iran.
A breakthrough occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, where it was reported that the US is getting 15-20 tankers carrying roughly 10 million barrels of oil through the strait per day. This amount is half of the pre-war total of 20 million barrels per day.
The operation was made possible due to two weeks of US strikes on Iran, which targeted radar and maritime surveillance systems. The officials stated that they have been controlling the southern lane of the Strait of Hormuz for two months now.
Analysts were skeptical about the claim, citing practical reasons for their disbelief. However, some analysts noted that the report injected much-needed optimism into Trump's camp and gave the impression that the US was wearing down Iran's biggest asset.
