Iran's IRGC Claims Strike on US Warships and Oil Tankers in Persian Gulf
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has claimed to have targeted and heavily damaged two U.S. warships, DDG-119 and DDG-53, as well as eight oil tankers in the Persian Gulf. The IRGC stated that these vessels were attempting to pass through a restricted navigation area of the Strait of Hormuz with U.S. encouragement and support.
The incident is seen as retaliation for a U.S. attack on five Iranian tankers. According to reports, several explosions occurred on Tuesday night in parts of Kharg Island in southern Iran, as well as in the southern area of Jask.
The U.S. Central Command confirmed that U.S. forces had destroyed four IRGC-affiliated oil tankers in response to the Iranian attack. The exact extent of the damage is still unclear.
