Iran's Oil Hub Spotted with Massive Slicks Amid Tensions with US
Iran's main oil export hub, Kharg Island, has been spotted with massive new oil slicks, raising concerns about potential leaks and storage shortages amid a US blockade. Satellite images from Soar revealed the fresh oil slicks off the island, which could be due to a leak or excess oil being dumped into the sea.
The incident comes as tensions between Iran and the US remain high after a recent clash in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump described the Iranian attack on three US destroyers as 'just a love tap,' but claimed that 'the ceasefire is going.'
Tehran confirmed that oil production has been reduced due to the US blockade, and storage space had run out, leading to claims that Iran may be pumping excess oil into the sea. The US military stated that the destroyers involved in the exchange of fire were the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason.
US officials confirmed that Tehran sent fast boats toward the destroyers, but they were 'completely destroyed' along with numerous small boats, according to Trump. Iran reported that the US had struck a pier on Qeshm Island, which the US said was responsible for the attack on US forces.
