Iran's Warning Ignites Flames in Hormuz Strait as Qatar LNG Tanker Damaged
A tanker ship carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar's Ras Laffan terminal has been damaged in an incident near the Strait of Hormuz. The GasLog Shanghai, a Bermuda-flagged vessel, was struck by an unidentified projectile while crossing the strait through the southern corridor near Oman. The impact caused a fire near the engine room and temporarily disabled electrical power.
According to Iranian media, the tanker was using an unauthorized route and had deliberately deactivated its tracking system. However, publicly available data cannot confirm whether the signal was switched off or lost due to technical problems.
No party has formally claimed responsibility for the incident, but it follows repeated warnings from Iran that commercial vessels cannot rely on Washington-backed routes without coordinating with Tehran. This further escalates the battle over control of the world's most important energy chokepoint.
